ISWP's Training Working Group is working to ensure people in need of wheelchairs are provided with properly fitted chairs through competent training, testing and delivery. The Working Group promotes dissemination and rollout of World Health Organization (WHO) Wheelchair Service Training Packages, including Basic, Intermediate, and Managers and Stakeholders. The group also supports capacity building of wheelchair services and monitoring of personnel within the services to meet WHO guidelines. Working Group members include doctors, trainers, wheelchair technicians, university professors, consultants, and others who are experienced in wheelchair training and provision.
Three subcommittees comprise the Working Group:
Competency Testing: Develop an Intermediate test to supplement the WSTP-Intermediate training package. And consider testing for services and training institutions.
Hybrid, Blended Learning Course: Develop a combination in-person and online course, starting with WSTP-Basic, to facilitate learning, reduce the number of in-person training days and reduce training costs.
Integration: Integrate wheelchair provisioning into professional level undergraduate, mid-level and grassroots training curricula.
